In previous years, we've provided a scholarship to the most deserving student in the Algonquin College Technical Writing program. This year, we've decided to make changes to the issuance of the award.

Instead of limiting the award to Algonquin College students, we've modified the process to offer a broader range of students the chance to show their skills and interest in technical writing and in the work of the Society. Entry into the award competition is an opportunity for students to receive feedback on their work, and may pique their interest in submitting their work for future STC competitions.

Any college or university student wishing to be considered for the award is asked to self-nominate by sending the following:

• their contact details (including name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address),
• a short statement (up to 250 words) describing their motivations as a technical writer, and
• a technical writing sample to be reviewed by the Executive and judges.

Mailed submissions will not be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Deadline for submissions is February 15, 2007. Mailed competition entries must be postmarked no later than that date.

The award winner will be notified by telephone or mail, and will be publicly announced in time for the annual awards dinner to be held in March.
